2016 Kitchen Decorating Trends

Kitchens… the heart of the home. If you have a houseful of company, chances are most of them have gathered in the kitchen.   Let’s talk about just a few of the trends headed our way in 2016-2017.

  1.   Stainless Appliances are Waning-After years of stainless, appliance colors are evolving  Stainless certainly balanced the cool gray color story everywhere but quite frankly, it is time for a change.  Choices include bronze…the new stainless.  Don’t be surprised to see black re-emerge which also fits with the grey story.   As we move into two tone cabinets, (another trend to watch) black appliances  will add balance and cohesiveness. In addition, look for the new colored stainless in black and sunset bronze. These finishes will also be mimicked in fixture finishes.
  2. Painted Cabinets-The trend continues but instead of white cabinets, the attention is toward the deeper values.  Black, gray, navy, quite frankly  there isn’t a color that can’t work.  The key is to blend the color intensity with the other surfaces selected. Get the best of both worlds by using two tone cabinets typically with the darker value on the bottom.
  3. White Marble or Quartz Counters-With painted cabinets, you often need the balance of less busy service. Granite with heavy veining can seem too heavy with darker cabinets. So here comes white marble or its easier to maintain friend, quarts.
